Transmission Line Engineer
Job Responsibilities
:
BOSTON!!
Under the direction of the T&D Group Manager, is responsible for the detailed engineering design and project management of transmission (69 - 345 kV), sub-transmission (23 - 34.5 kV) and distribution line projects. These projects are to include entire new facilities, as well as major additions, rehabilitation, replacement, clearance and lightning improvements, and reconductoring of existing electric power lines. Plans and designs involve compliance with environmental, safety and client standards and policies.
Plans, schedules, conducts and/or coordinates detailed phases of engineering assignments involving multiple major projects, requiring the evaluation, application of standards with appropriate modification.
Determines and documents project estimate, scope and schedule; sets and evaluates design options and criteria for technical merit; conducts field visits, verifies and inspects electrical line assets, equipment parameters and identifies applicable codes and system specification requirements.
Directs and guides a team of designer/drafters in support of all assigned projects; Assigns project tasks to project team members so that assignments are completed when needed and within budget. Prepare documentation and conduct meetings. Ensure proper accounting procedures are followed.
Prepares engineering and design deliverables for transmission lines including plan and profiles, structure loading analysis, structure and foundation design
, conductor and shield wire analysis, material selection and construction specifications; Directs, monitors and reviews designs; interfaces with Client.
Works with Client and/or construction contractors to develop cut-over procedures to minimize customer outages and maximize personnel safety. Provide engineering support to resolve technical issues that may arise in the different project phases, including field visits.
Demonstrate technical expertise in transmission line design and the ability to identify, propose and implement innovative ideas to add value engineering to the projects.
Testify as an expert witness if required. Interact with legal, real estate and environmental groups in support of licensing/permitting process.
Job Qualifications
A bachelor of science degree in civil/structural or electrical engineering from an accredited engineering school is required.
PE License is preferred.
Knowledge of engineering economics, surveying, geographical information systems, electrical engineering, environmental and legal regulations.
Knowledge of AutoCad and/or Microstation and the Power Line Systems suite of software

Experience in construction, operations and commissioning practices
Familiarity with AISC, ANSI, ASTM & ASCE standards and National Electrical Safety Code.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
Demonstrate a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with both internal and external stakeholders, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive, team building manner.
Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints.
